The COP26 Conference Revealed Blockchain Technology Could Help Combat Climate Change. Here’s What You Can Expect

Blockchain technology has proven to be very efficient, however, is it efficient enough to help combat climate change?

  • The United Citizens Organization launched an initiative during Cop26 to help solve climate change with blockchain technology 
  • During this conference, The GloCha United Citizens Organization (UCO) for Action for Climate Empowerment launched at Cop26 as a blockchain-based quasi-international organization located in Klagenfurt, Austria.
  • One of the goals behind using blockchain technology is to allow investors to see where their money is flowing. For example, whether it’s for reducing carbon emissions or pushing the use of solar power, each investor would see what their return-on-impact (ROI) is.

There is definitely a long road ahead to use blockchain technology as a means to combat climate change, but it is doable. For example, the creation and administration of carbon credits is one way of fighting climate change. The administration of carbon credits may become more transparent and effective with the use of blockchain. There are so many ways to prevent climate change, but it all comes down to us. Can we catch up to the already rising temperatures, melting ice caps and more frequent and intense extreme weather events?
